Traditionalists will love the manual operation via a lens-mounted control ring and the familiarity of an eye-level electronic viewfinder. The modern enthusiast will love the Wi-Fi controllability via mobile devices and the next-generation flexibility offered by the 4K video and 4K PHOTO modes for the creative experience. The Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70 has a somewhat confusing name, as it is referred to differently depending on the country in which it is sold. Outside of North America, it’s called the Lumix TZ90 and features a 3-inch LCD screen that also tilts to take selfies. The compact camera has a wide zoom range of 24-720mm, which is great for zooming in on wildlife on a safari or taking great shots from the front at a concert from the back. As for storage capacity, the camera doesn’t have built-in memory, but it does have a slot for a memory card where you can store your pictures or videos on the go. The Lumix ZS70 has the typical design and form factor you would expect from a point-and-shoot camera. It is only available in black and has buttons that you can customize to switch between modes faster. It has 3 function (Fn) buttons that can be customized to switch to different modes or settings. These options include 4K photo mode, white balance, AF mode, and WiFi. The Leica DC zoom lens on this camera is also not interchangeable, but we don’t think the needs of a regular photographer will not be met by the 30x optical zoom, which is much better than the 4.2x you get with the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II. The Panasonic Lumix ZS70 also comes with great connectivity options that allow you to transfer your media via WiFi or print, upload and share via the Panasonic Image app. The camera may not be as rugged as the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-6, but it does have an electronic shutter that allows you to shoot at a very high shutter speed, and a touchscreen display that allows easy positioning of the autofocus frame even in low light. The Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70 is an affordable point-and-shoot camera that offers some of the features of a more expensive camera, at an affordable price. It is suitable for both vacationers and amateur photographers, and has features that will keep it interesting for a long time.
